Description

Down Underquilt for Hammock Selva 250 Cumulus

Versatile 2.5-season down underquilt for hammock camping

Selva 250 is Cumulus’ high-quality and easy-to-use down underquilt. It is designed for users who want additional warmth and insulation when sleeping in a hammock, even in cooler summer conditions. Its oval shape and effective insulation make it an excellent companion for hiking, camping and hammock use when temperatures drop on cooler summer nights.

When sleeping in a hammock, cold almost always creeps in from below. Selva 250 blocks airflow under your back and helps retain body heat throughout the night when nighttime temperatures remain above freezing.

Features

  • 2.5-season use / late spring to early autumn
  • Filled with 250 g of down
  • Down quality: 850 FP
  • 3/4 length
  • Weight approx. 450 g
  • Comfort ~2 °C / Limit ~–4 °C

Temperature rating

Selva 250 is intended for cooler summer conditions and a longer trekking season compared to lighter models. When properly adjusted, it provides pleasant and even warmth without cold spots.

Comfort: approx. ~2 °C
Limit: approx. ~–4 °C
(values measured together with the Taiga 250 top quilt)

Note: This is not a winter model. For winter conditions or an even longer season, warmer options such as Selva 450 or Selva 600 should be considered.

Construction and design

The 3D oval shape naturally follows the shape of the hammock and effectively protects the shoulders and upper body. The differential cut construction allows the down to loft freely without compression. Combined with H-baffle construction, it ensures even down distribution, prevents cold spots and improves insulation performance throughout use.

Differential cut construction means that the outer and inner fabrics are different sizes. This gives the down enough space to fully loft and trap air efficiently, resulting in more even and warmer insulation.

Why is 3/4 length (150 cm) enough?

Selva 250 is a 3/4-length underquilt designed to insulate the most critical areas of the body: the back, lower back and shoulders. The legs can be insulated if needed with clothing or a lightweight sit pad. This solution significantly reduces weight and pack size without compromising sleeping comfort in summer conditions.

Materials

Insulation

  • 250 g of ethically sourced 850 FP Polish goose down

Fabrics

  • Pertex® Quantum DWR (outer and inner fabric), lightweight and durable ripstop material
  • DWR treatment helps repel light moisture

The down used by Cumulus is known for its excellent loft, long service life and outstanding warmth-to-weight ratio.

Setup and use

  • Selva 250 is quick and easy to set up:
  • Suspension system included
  • Fits most hammocks
  • Adjustments are easy to make even while lying in the hammock
  • Stays securely in place without constant readjustment

When properly adjusted, the underquilt lightly touches the hammock and maintains the loft of the down throughout the night.

In real use on the trail

On cooler trips, Selva 250 effectively prevents cold air from entering under your back and keeps you warm for longer. Once properly adjusted, it does not need to be readjusted during the night – it stays in place and allows you to sleep peacefully. Its relatively light weight and compact pack size make it an ideal choice for trips from late spring to early autumn and for hammock camping in nature.

Fluff regularly

Caring for and fluffing down products is essential to maintain insulation performance. During use and storage, down can become compressed, reducing loft and insulating ability. Shake and fluff the product regularly, especially after removing it from the stuff sack, to allow the down to recover and trap air again. Always store down products loosely, preferably in the supplied storage bag, not tightly compressed. Wash only when necessary, using a detergent designed for down and following the manufacturer’s care instructions to preserve the properties of the down for as long as possible.

Who is Selva 250 best suited for?

Selva 250 is ideal for hikers who want more warmth and a more versatile season of use than the Selva 120. It is an excellent choice for lightweight trekking, hammock camping in cooler weather, and situations where you want to minimize weight and pack size without compromising on warmth.

Summary

Cumulus Selva 250 is a carefully designed down underquilt for hammocks that offers excellent insulation and comfort in cooler summer conditions. It combines low weight, compact pack size and effective warmth in a way that makes it a reliable piece of gear for hammock camping from spring through autumn.
