Tarp Poncho Simplex Liteway

Ultralight poncho tarp Liteway Poncho Simplex combines a rain poncho and a solo tarp in one piece of gear weighing only around 225 g. It is especially well suited to lightweight backpacking, hiking and long-distance trekking when you want to reduce both pack weight and the number of separate items you carry.

When worn as a poncho, it provides protection from rain and wind while moving. At camp, the 272 × 144 cm fabric can be pitched as a solo tarp with approximately 3.8 m² of coverage. With the included UHMW PE guylines and stuff sack, the total weight is approximately 290 g.

Poncho tarp – two functions in one

The idea behind Poncho Simplex is simple: the same piece of gear works as rainwear during the day and as a shelter at camp. This can eliminate the need to carry both a separate rain poncho and a tarp.

It is particularly suitable for minimalist hiking and ultralight backpacking, where multi-purpose gear can help reduce overall pack weight.

Using Poncho Simplex as a rain poncho

Poncho Simplex is worn over the head like a conventional rain poncho. The roomy adjustable hood and peak can be adjusted for a more secure and comfortable fit.

An elastic belt with Fastex buckle attaches to the side loops and helps keep the poncho close to the body in windy conditions. The rear section is longer than the front, providing additional coverage over the back and backpack.

The poncho is roomy enough to be used over a lightweight backpack, although fit will naturally depend on the size and packing volume of the pack.

How to use it as a poncho

• Pull the poncho over your head like a conventional rain poncho.
• Arrange the longer rear section over your back and backpack.
• Fasten the elastic belt around your body if needed.
• Adjust the hood and peak for a comfortable fit.

Using it as a solo tarp

At camp, Poncho Simplex can be pitched as an ultralight solo tarp. Its rectangular shape, eight attachment points and catenary cut allow several different pitching configurations depending on weather conditions and available support points.

The tarp can be pitched with trekking poles, between trees or using other suitable support points.

Catenary cut and 8 attachment points

Poncho Simplex uses a catenary cut. The curved edges are designed to help the fabric tension evenly and reduce flapping when the tarp is pitched correctly.

The eight main attachment points are equipped with WJ line lock adjusters. These allow the UHMW PE guylines to be tightened quickly without having to untie knots.

Levitex Silpoly 20D Ripstop

Poncho Simplex is made from lightweight 1.1 oz Levitex Silpoly 20D Ripstop with a stated waterproof rating of 2000 mm.

Silpoly is silicone-coated polyester designed for ultralight rain and shelter applications. Polyester stretches less than nylon when wet, which helps the tarp maintain good tension in rainy conditions.

Seams must be sealed by the user

The seams of Poncho Simplex are not factory sealed. For the best protection in rain, the seams should be treated with a suitable silicone-based seam sealer before use.

A silicone-based product such as Gear Aid Seam Grip SIL is suitable for this type of Silpoly fabric.

UHMW PE guylines

The product is supplied with lightweight UHMW PE guylines. The material is strong, very light and has low stretch, helping the tarp maintain good tension once pitched.

Compatible with Simplex Mesh 1P

Poncho Simplex is compatible with the Liteway Simplex Mesh 1P mesh inner. Together they form a lightweight double-wall solo shelter system, with Poncho Simplex providing weather protection and Simplex Mesh 1P providing an insect-protected sleeping area.

Simplex Mesh 1P is sold separately and is not included with Poncho Simplex.
