Description
Camping Hammock with Structural Ridgeline Sirius 3 Hammock |Mavaja
Sirius 3 is an asymmetrical camping hammock with a fixed mosquito net and a structural ridgeline. The 330 cm length and approximately 147 cm width provide noticeably more room for a proper diagonal lay compared to shorter standard hammocks, which directly improves sleeping comfort. Sirius 3 has been updated especially in day-to-day usability: zippers, pull-outs, ridgeline, Bishop bag, and included 12 kN carabiners make it a more refined version of the earlier Sirius 2.
Please note: each Sirius is handmade, so the total fabric length may vary by +/- 5 cm.
Diagonal lay
You do not sleep in a hammock in a straight line — you sleep diagonally across it. Sirius 3 is an asymmetrical model where the correct lay is head left and feet right. This diagonal lay creates a flatter sleeping position and reduces the “banana shape” that happens when lying directly in the center line. The 330 cm length is important here. In shorter hammocks, the diagonal lay becomes limited, especially for taller users. The approximately 147 cm width helps shoulder and leg positioning, so the hammock feels less restrictive and easier to sleep in. Most users naturally settle with their head slightly left of center. This left-head lay is the standard sleeping position for right-handed users.
Ridgeline
The adjustable structural ridgeline runs from one end of the hammock to the other. Its purpose is not to carry weight, but to keep the hammock shape consistent regardless of tree distance or suspension height. This is one of those details beginners usually do not know to ask about, but notice immediately in real use. When the ridgeline is adjusted correctly, the lay remains the same from one setup to the next and the hammock does not feel different every night.
In Sirius 3, the ridgeline adjustment has been improved compared to the previous version. The sleeve for the ridgeline organizer has also been widened, so the organizer moves more smoothly and does not get stuck when repositioning it. The ridgeline should not be adjusted too long. If it is too long, it puts excessive tension on the bug net and may cause damage — this is considered user error, not a warranty issue. A good general ridgeline length is approximately 83% of the hammock fabric length. The ridgeline can also be used for support when getting in or out of the hammock. It comes pre-installed and is made from 3.5 mm UHMWPE cord.
Fabric and weight
The hammock body is made from 40D ripstop nylon with a PFC-free DWR treatment for moisture and dirt resistance. In practice, 40D sits between ultralight fabrics and heavier 70D standard hammocks. The total weight of 680 g (including the stuff sack) makes this a strong three-season camping hammock for users who want to keep weight reasonable without giving up a bug net or structural ridgeline. For winter use, this alone is not enough — a hammock provides no insulation underneath, so an underquilt becomes practically necessary.
Mosquito net
The fixed mosquito net is made from dense no-see-um polyester mesh that protects not only from mosquitoes, but also from smaller biting midges and gnats. In Nordic summer conditions, this is often a necessity rather than an extra feature. The mesh is black, which makes visibility outward noticeably better than with lighter-colored mesh. This improves overall comfort, especially on longer trips where the hammock is used for more than just sleeping. There is also a mesh storage pocket under the end flap for storing the bug net. The net is not fully removable — it remains attached to the hammock at both zipper ends. This keeps the system simple and faster to use, even though the net cannot be separated completely.
Zippers (YKK)
The bug net uses YKK zippers with double-sided sliders, and Sirius 3 now includes glow-in-the-dark silicone zipper pulls. This sounds like a small detail, but in low light it becomes surprisingly useful — you do not need to search for the zipper pulls with a headlamp. There are two double-sided sliders, allowing you to position the opening exactly where you want it. Before taking the hammock down, it is recommended to move the sliders under the protective end flap so they stay better protected and are less likely to damage the net.
Side pull-outs
The pull-out attachment points on both sides help spread the hammock fabric around the shoulders and legs. Their purpose is not to tighten the hammock, but to create more usable interior space when needed. In Sirius 3, the pull-out direction has been changed so they point toward the center from both ends. This spreads the hammock more naturally and makes the bug net interior feel more spacious. There is now also more zipper clearance around the pull-out area, which helps prevent zipper snagging in these sections. The side shock cords now connect to a fixed D-ring with a ladder lock adjustment, making setup cleaner and faster than before. Many users leave the pull-outs unused, especially when using an underquilt, because they can make underquilt adjustment slightly more difficult. Sirius 3 works well either way.
Please note: stakes and tree straps are not included and are sold separately.
Ridgeline organizer
The hammock includes a ridgeline organizer that comes pre-installed on the ridgeline. It has mesh pockets and a separate sleeve that allows a water bottle to be stored horizontally. In practice, this works as the internal storage system of the hammock: your phone, headlamp, glasses, and other small essentials stay within reach instead of ending up under you during the night. In Sirius 3, the sleeve running along the ridgeline has been widened compared to the previous version, making the organizer easier to move without sticking.
Bishop bag
Sirius 3 comes packed in a Bishop bag, a stuff sack that closes from both ends. Packing and unpacking become much faster in rain, cold weather, or heavy bug conditions, because the hammock can simply be pulled in or out without unnecessary folding. It also makes setup easier at the next campsite since the fabric stays controlled and does not end up wet or dirty on the ground. The end loops and carabiners should always be left outside the bag, so suspension setup can begin immediately without digging through the bottom of the sack.
The Daisy Chain tree straps shown in the product photos are not included.

Loistava
