Description
Camping Hammock with Structural Ridgeline – Sirius 3 Hammock
The Sirius 3 is a 330 cm asymmetrical camping hammock with an integrated bug net and an adjustable structural ridgeline. Its most important feature is not the weight or the bug net. It is sleeping comfort. Most hammocks on the market are between 270 and 300 cm long. In shorter hammocks, the sleeping angle becomes steeper, the back remains more curved, and there is less room for the shoulders.
At 330 cm, the diagonal sleeping position becomes noticeably flatter. The user can lie corner-to-corner with their head to the left and feet to the right. This allows the back to straighten, opens up shoulder space, and makes the hammock feel less like a hanging sling and more like a proper sleeping platform.
For this reason, many experienced hammock campers consider hammock length more important than saving a few hundred grams. The Sirius 3 was designed around this principle.
Why Does 330 cm Matter?
People do not normally sleep in line with the hammock. The most comfortable position is found diagonally across the fabric, with the body positioned roughly 30 degrees off the hammock’s centerline. The longer the hammock, the flatter this diagonal becomes.
In practice, this means:
- A flatter sleeping position
- Less pressure on the knees
- More room for the shoulders
- Easier side sleeping
- Less need to change position during the night
Many users moving from a shorter hammock to a 330 cm model describe the difference as larger than they expected from the measurements alone.
Asymmetrical Design
The Sirius 3 is an asymmetrical hammock. It is designed to be used with your head on the left side and your feet on the right side. This is the most natural sleeping orientation for most right-handed users. The asymmetrical shape helps guide the sleeper into the correct diagonal position without constantly adjusting during the night. This is not a cosmetic feature. Its sole purpose is to improve sleeping comfort.
Structural Ridgeline
The adjustable structural ridgeline runs from one end of the hammock to the other. Its purpose is to maintain the hammock’s shape regardless of tree spacing or suspension height. Once adjusted correctly, the hammock will feel nearly identical from campsite to campsite. This makes setup less sensitive to small mistakes and is especially helpful for new hammock users.
Note: The ridgeline is intentionally supplied longer than its final recommended length. During initial setup, we recommend adjusting it to approximately 83% of the hammock body length. A ridgeline that is too long can place unnecessary tension on the bug net and negatively affect the hammock’s performance.
The ridgeline is made from 3.5 mm UHMWPE cord and comes pre-installed.
40D Ripstop Nylon
The hammock body is made from 40D ripstop nylon with a PFC-free DWR treatment. 40D sits between ultralight 20–30D fabrics and heavier traditional hammock materials. The goal is not the lowest possible weight, but a balance between comfort, durability, and packability. Total weight is approximately 680 g including the stuff sack.
While heavier than the most minimalist hammock setups, the Sirius 3 includes an integrated bug net, structural ridgeline, organizer, Bishop bag, and several convenience features as standard.
Bug Net for Nordic Conditions
The integrated bug net is made from fine polyester no-see-um mesh that protects not only against mosquitoes but also against midges and biting gnats. In Nordic summer conditions, this is often a necessity rather than an optional extra. The black mesh provides significantly better visibility than lighter-colored netting, making the hammock feel more open during daytime use. A two-way YKK #5 zipper allows entry and exit from either direction. The zipper pulls feature glow-in-the-dark silicone tabs, making them easier to locate in low light.
Pull-Outs
The side pull-outs spread the hammock body and bug net around the shoulder and foot areas. Their purpose is not to tighten the hammock but to increase interior space and move the bug net further away from the occupant. Pull-outs are completely optional and can be used or omitted depending on personal preference and underquilt setup.
Bishop Bag and Organizer
The Sirius 3 is supplied in a double-ended Bishop bag. This allows faster setup and pack-down, especially in rain, cold weather, or heavy insect conditions, as the hammock does not need to be laid on the ground during packing. The ridgeline organizer provides convenient storage for a phone, headlamp, glasses, power bank, and other small essentials.
Why Are Suspension Straps Not Included?
The Sirius 3 does not include tree straps or suspension webbing. This is an intentional decision. Hammock campers use a wide variety of suspension systems including Daisy Chains, Whoopie Slings, Dyneema straps, and other lightweight alternatives. Including one suspension system would be the wrong solution for many users. This allows you to choose the suspension that best suits your style of camping rather than paying for components that may never be used.

Our Thoughts
Hammock comfort is influenced by length far more than many first-time users realize. Most people’s first hammock experience comes from a 270–300 cm hammock where they end up lying almost in line with the fabric. This often creates a curved back position and increased pressure on the knees. The Sirius 3 is designed to be used diagonally. Its 330 cm length, asymmetrical shape, and structural ridgeline work together to make finding a flatter sleeping position easier.
That is why the most important feature of the Sirius 3 is not its weight or feature list. It is the opportunity to sleep better.

Loistava
