Ultralight tent for two persons Illusion Duo Ultralight Tent Liteway

The Illusion Duo Ultralight Silpoly Tent is the result of several years of design and testing. Made in Ukraine, the Illusion Duo combines a tent and a tarp to create a high quality single-layer tent for two. So unlike other Liteway tarp tents, this model has a fixed floating base and two doorways. A floating base means that there is a strip of mosquito netting between the waterproof base fabric and the main fabric of the tent itself. The tent is pyramidal and can be pitched with one or two poles (you will also need an A-frame connector).

Weight and dimensions of the Illusion Duo tent

The Liteway Illusion Duo tent weighs well under 900g with the poles and packing bag. The interior of the Duo is just the right size for two people. This pyramid-shaped tent has sloping side walls, but still comfortably accommodates a sleeping platform of up to 230 cm. The tent has an internal width of 135 cm and a length of 230 cm. Please note that the thick inflatable sleeping pad shortens the internal space of the tent. The inner surface area is 3.2 m2.

Door openings with netting

The Illusion Duo has mesh doors to keep insects out. In front of the doorways are 55 cm deep absidis, or vestibules, which are protected by the tent’s outer fabric. The tent door has a YKK #3 AQUAGUARD zipper.

Ventilation openings – reducing condensation

The Illusion Duo has two vents located on the sides of the tent. The vents are kept open by the use of pegs and support. The tent’s inner doors and hem mesh strips also serve as one ventilation opening

Floating base – you can adjust the ventilation

The Illusion Duo is a single-layer tent with a mosquito net strip connecting the tent fabric to the ground fabric. In bad weather, you can shorten the length of the hiking pole, reducing the ventilation gap and giving you better weather protection. You can shorten the length of the pole enough to attach the outer fabric of the tent close to the ground. Please note that the sides of the front or back of the tent must always be off the ground to allow air to enter the tent through the mesh door. It is a good idea to protect the base with Tyvek or Polycrol.

Equipment pockets on the door

The Illusion Duo has small pockets at the top of the mesh doors on the inside. These mesh pockets allow you to store small lightweight items such as a headlamp, sunglasses or smartphone. Do not overload the pockets to avoid damaging the mesh door.

The rod or rods needed to put up the net

The Illusion Duo Ultralight tent can be pitched with one or two poles. If pitching with one pole, mount it in the centre of the tarp. There is a small bag in the floor for the pole, see pictures. The length of the pole must be at least 130 cm high.

If two poles are used, a separately sold accessory is required. This is called the A-frame connector, it connects the poles to each other with a brush to the A-frame, so the poles are not in the way inside the tent. The poles are inserted through the pole hole at the bottom of the doors, handle end first, then into the A-frame connector.

If two walking poles are used, they must be 155 cm long. Below are instructions for selecting the correct A-frame Connector:

25 cm Connector for walking poles between 130 and 135 cm in length.
35 cm Connector for walking poles between 120 and 125 cm long.
15 cm Connector for walking poles between 140 and 145 cm.

Wedge requirements

The manufacturer recommends a minimum of 6 wedges (wedges not included). If windy weather is expected and you want to attach all the tent pegs, you will need 8 wedges.

Seam sealing

Note: The seams of the Illusion Duo tent are not sealed, they must be sealed yourself. Seam sealant is not supplied with the product. To protect the seams we recommend Gear-Aid Seam Sealer. Note: Seam sealer must be suitable for silicone based materials. The Illusion Duo tent silpoly material has a waterproof rating of 2000 mm.

Take the tent out of the package and lay it out with the base on the ground
Secure the corners with wedges (not included)
* Insert the pole(s)
Adjust the tent to stand upright with the tensioning buckles
To increase the volume of the tent, install and secure the additional poles as well.

* Single pole set-up: insert the trekking pole (handle upwards) or central pole (130 cm long) from the inside of the tent into the pole pocket at the bottom and then into the pole pocket at the top of the tent. Remember to protect the sharp tip of the walking stick with a protective cap.

* Dual pole setup: each pole is inserted through the grommets next to the doors (next to each door) to the top of the tent, where they are connected by a Connector. The poles are installed with the handle sections facing downwards and of course the tip section facing upwards. That is, the pointed tip is mounted on the ends of the A-frame connector tubes.
