Description
Ultralight Two-Person Tent Lunar Duo – Six Moon Designs
Six Moon Designs Lunar Duo is a spacious two-person ultralight tent for hiking, lightweight backpacking and camping with a dog. The tent weighs approximately 1.27 kg without stakes or support poles. Its approximately 3.2 m² interior, two entrances and two vestibules give both users their own access and protected storage space for equipment.
Lunar Duo is pitched with two adjustable trekking poles or two separately available tent poles measuring approximately 114 cm. The trekking-pole-supported construction removes the need for conventional tent arches and provides an excellent amount of space for its weight.
Please note: The seams are not factory sealed. They must be treated with a seam sealer suitable for silicone-coated polyester before the tent is used in rain. Seam sealer, stakes and support poles are not included.
Spacious two-person ultralight tent
The interior dimensions of Lunar Duo are approximately 228 × 137 cm. The floor area is approximately 3.2 m², providing room for two adults, wide sleeping mats and smaller items of equipment.
The manufacturer states that the tent accommodates two people and their gear. The spacious floor also makes Lunar Duo a practical choice for taller users, couples and hikers sharing the tent with a dog.
- interior dimensions approximately 228 × 137 cm
- floor area approximately 3.2 m²
- capacity for two people and gear
- two entrances
- two internal storage pockets
Two entrances and two vestibules
Each long side of Lunar Duo has its own entrance and vestibule. Both sleepers can enter and leave the tent without disturbing one another or climbing over the other person during the night.
The two vestibules provide a combined area of approximately 1.1 m². They offer protected storage for footwear, backpacks and wet outer equipment.
The vestibule doors can be adjusted according to weather conditions. Fully opened, they improve cross-ventilation and provide a wider view outside. In poor weather, the vestibules can be closed to protect the entrances from driving rain.
Do not use an open-flame camping stove inside the tent. Cooking in a vestibule also involves fire, heat and carbon monoxide risks.
Silpoly fabric retains tension in wet conditions
The Lunar Duo canopy and floor are made from 30 denier silicone-coated polyester, commonly known as silpoly. Polyester absorbs little moisture and stretches less when wet than many silicone-coated nylon fabrics. This helps the tent retain its shape and tension in rainy conditions.
The canopy and floor have a stated hydrostatic head of 3,000 mm. The insect mesh is fine 20D No-See-Um mesh, and the tent is fitted with YKK #5 zippers.
- canopy: 30D silicone-coated polyester
- floor: 30D silicone-coated polyester
- insect mesh: 20D No-See-Um
- hydrostatic head: 3,000 mm
- zippers: YKK #5
Bathtub floor and ventilation mesh
The floor rises approximately 15 cm above ground level, forming a bathtub-style barrier against splashback. A strip of insect mesh above the floor improves airflow and keeps sleepers farther away from the inside of the canopy.
The mesh construction between the floor and canopy helps air circulate around the tent. It can reduce condensation but cannot eliminate it completely.
A separate groundsheet is recommended, especially on rocky, rough or abrasive ground. Clear the pitching area of sharp stones, branches and cones before spreading out the tent.
Ventilation and condensation management
Lunar Duo has two high-level vents and vestibules that open on both sides. Opening both entrances creates effective cross-ventilation through the tent.
The height of the vestibule doors and floating canopy can be adjusted according to conditions:
- a higher pitch increases airflow
- a lower pitch provides more protection from wind and driving rain
- opening both doors improves cross-ventilation in warm weather
Lunar Duo is a single-wall tent. Condensation may form on the inside of the canopy in humid, cold or still conditions. Good ventilation, even canopy tension and keeping sleeping bags away from the canopy help reduce moisture-related problems.
Pitched with two trekking poles
Lunar Duo is pitched with two adjustable trekking poles or two separately available tent poles measuring approximately 114 cm. The poles are positioned on opposite sides of the tent, leaving the central sleeping area free of a centre pole.
The side-mounted poles and curved roofline create a spacious interior. The side walls remain relatively upright, improving usable space along the edges of the sleeping mats.
Trekking poles and separate tent poles are not included.
How to pitch Lunar Duo
Lunar Duo is not a freestanding tent. Its shape, interior space and weather resistance depend on correct stake placement, pole height and even guy-line tension.
- Choose a level location where rainwater will not collect.
- Clear the ground of sharp stones, branches and cones.
- Position the narrower or more enclosed end towards the prevailing wind.
- Spread the tent on the ground and loosen the guy lines.
- Stake the first corners according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Adjust both trekking poles to approximately 114 cm.
- Place the poles in their reinforced support points.
- Stake the remaining corners and vestibule guy lines.
- Tighten the lines gradually, alternating between both sides.
- Make sure the floor lies evenly, the walls rise correctly and the ventilation gaps remain open.
- Check the tension and retighten after approximately 30 minutes if necessary.
Tips for a successful pitch
Lunar Duo is straightforward to pitch once the correct pole and stake positions are familiar. During the first few uses, it is worth allowing enough time to achieve even tension throughout the shelter.
If the roof remains loose, the floor wrinkles or the interior feels smaller than expected, check:
- that both trekking poles are the same length
- that the poles are positioned correctly
- that opposing guy lines are evenly tensioned
- that one corner has not been tightened more than the others
- that the stakes are positioned far enough from the tent
- that the guy lines follow the direction of the canopy seams and rooflines
When pitched correctly, the Lunar Duo canopy is even, the doors operate without unnecessary strain and both sleepers have access to the full usable width of the floor.
Windy and rainy conditions
The low, wide shape and multiple tie-out points help distribute wind loading. Performance in windy conditions still depends on correct orientation, secure stakes and even tension.
In windy weather:
- position the narrower end or most enclosed side towards the prevailing wind
- use stakes suitable for the ground
- check the tension of every guy line
- keep the windward vestibule closed
- check the tension again when weather conditions change
Lunar Duo is a three-season tent, not a dedicated winter or mountaineering shelter. Heavy snow should not be allowed to accumulate on the canopy.
Seam sealing before use
The seams of Lunar Duo are not factory sealed. The tent is not fully rainproof until the seams have been treated.
Use a seam sealer suitable for silicone-coated polyester. Treat the canopy seams, reinforced areas and tie-out points indicated in the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow the treatment to dry completely before packing the tent or using it in rain.
Conventional seam tape or adhesive intended for polyurethane-coated tent fabrics may not adhere properly to silicone-coated polyester.

Our thoughts
The greatest strength of Lunar Duo is its exceptionally spacious interior compared with its approximately 1.27 kg weight. Two side doors and two vestibules make two-person use much more convenient than in a tent with only one entrance.
The tent is particularly well suited to two users who value interior space but do not want to carry the weight of a conventional two-person pole tent. In return, Lunar Duo requires two trekking poles, six secure stakes, seam sealing and some practice to achieve an evenly tensioned pitch.
