Collapsible Water Container VectoPlus CNOC

Carrying water and collecting water are two different challenges.

A one-liter bottle is easy to fill from almost any stream, but collecting four, six, or eight liters for camp cooking, drinking, and filtration can become frustrating when using narrow-neck containers. The VectoX Plus addresses this with a full-width slider opening that allows water to be collected quickly from shallow streams, ponds, and slow-moving sources.

The reservoir is made from 0.4 mm TPU, a flexible material that balances durability with packability. According to the manufacturer, it is BPA-, BPF-, and BPS-free and can safely hold boiling water.

For many backpackers, the most important feature is compatibility with standard 28 mm threaded water filters. The VectoX Plus connects directly to filters such as the Sawyer Squeeze, Sawyer Mini, and Sawyer Micro without additional adapters. This makes it particularly useful for gravity filtration systems where larger volumes reduce the number of trips required to collect water.

The reinforced carry handles and attachment points become increasingly important as capacity increases. Water weighs approximately one kilogram per liter, meaning a full 8 L reservoir can weigh around 8 kg. The additional reinforcement helps when carrying or suspending the reservoir for filtration.

Why the Wide Opening Matters

Many hikers switch to CNOC reservoirs not because they need more capacity, but because the filling process is easier.

Standard squeeze pouches and bottles can be difficult to fill from shallow Nordic streams or small water sources. The VectoX Plus opens across the entire width of the reservoir, making water collection faster and reducing spillage.

This is often a bigger day-to-day advantage than the additional storage volume itself.

Choosing the Right Size

4 L

The 4 L version works well for solo backpackers using gravity filtration or carrying additional camp water. It offers increased capacity without becoming excessively bulky.

6 L

The 6 L version is often the most versatile choice for two-person trips. It provides enough water for cooking, drinking, and filtration while remaining manageable when full.

8 L

The 8 L version is best suited for group trips, canoe camping, vehicle-supported camps, and basecamp setups where water collection opportunities are limited. At full capacity, the weight becomes substantial, making it less suitable for carrying over long distances.

Use in Nordic Conditions

In Finland and much of Northern Europe, water sources are usually frequent enough that carrying 8 liters while hiking is rarely necessary. The larger capacities become more useful at camp, during group trips, or when using gravity filtration systems that process several liters at a time.

For long-distance hikers, the 4 L and 6 L versions are often the more practical choices.

Who It’s For

  • Backpackers using Sawyer water filters
  • Hikers building gravity filtration systems
  • Two-person and group trips
  • Canoe campers and basecamp users
  • Anyone frustrated by filling narrow water containers from shallow water sources

Not Ideal For

  • Minimalist hikers carrying only small amounts of water between frequent water sources
  • Users seeking the lowest possible pack weight
  • Those looking for a rigid water container
  • Situations where large water reserves are unnecessary

Which filters fit the VectoX Plus?

The VectoX Plus is compatible with filters that use a standard 28 mm thread, including the Sawyer Squeeze, Sawyer Mini, and Sawyer Micro.

Is the VectoX Plus waterproof?

Yes, when properly closed it functions as a water storage reservoir. However, it is not intended as a dry bag for protecting gear.

Can it be used for gravity filtration?

Yes. Gravity filtration is one of its primary use cases. The larger capacities are particularly useful when filtering water for multiple people.

Can it hold boiling water?

Yes. The manufacturer states that the TPU construction is safe for boiling water.

Which size should I choose?

For most solo hikers, 4 L is sufficient. Two-person trips often benefit from 6 L. The 8 L version is most useful for groups, canoe trips, and camp-based use.

Expert Notes

The biggest advantage of the VectoX Plus is often not the additional capacity but the wide opening. Filling a narrow pouch from a shallow stream can take multiple attempts, while the VectoX Plus can usually be filled in a single scoop.

If you use a Sawyer filter in freezing temperatures, remember that the filter itself is more vulnerable than the reservoir. Water left inside a filter can freeze and damage the internal hollow fibers even when the reservoir remains unaffected.
