Apex Insulated Jacket Climashield® APEX – Liteway

Liteway APEX Jacket is an ultralight and versatile insulated jacket that combines Climashield® APEX synthetic insulation with Liteway’s minimalist design. It is suitable for cool summer and autumn days, as a warm jacket for breaks while hiking, or as an additional insulating layer in colder conditions.

The APEX Jacket works equally well in the mountains, at camp or in everyday urban use. It is lightweight, warm and packs down small. Depending on size, the jacket weighs only approximately 235–330 g, making it particularly suitable for lightweight backpacking and other situations where every gram matters.

APEX insulated jacket for hiking and lightweight backpacking

The APEX Jacket works particularly well as an insulating layer during breaks, when activity stops and extra warmth is needed quickly. It can be pulled over hiking clothes during a rest stop, worn around camp in the evening or used as part of a layering system in colder conditions.

The cut supports freedom of movement, while the high-positioned pockets and extended rear hem are practical features for users carrying a backpack.

Hood

The carefully shaped hood is permanently attached to the jacket. A soft and elastic binding runs around the edge of the hood for a comfortable fit.

The hood is adjusted with a rear drawcord system featuring an elastic cord and cord lock for controlling the depth. The hood is generously sized, leaving room for a beanie or cap underneath. It provides useful protection against wind and cold draughts.

Large hand pockets and internal chest pocket

The hand pocket zips are positioned higher than on many conventional jackets, making the pockets easier to access even when a backpack hip belt is fastened over the jacket.

The large pockets extend down towards the hem and provide useful storage for gloves, a hat or other items needed during breaks. The zips are slim and colour-matched to the jacket fabric for a clean and understated appearance.

There is also an internal chest pocket on the left side with an integrated loop and small plastic buckle for securing keys or another small item.

Adjustable hem and extended rear

An elastic drawcord runs through the hem and is adjusted using cord locks positioned at the sides. The adjustment can also be operated with one hand.

The hem is shaped and extended at the back, helping to protect the lower back from cold and helping the jacket stay in place while moving.

Fit and cut

The APEX Jacket has a slightly relaxed and ergonomic cut, making it comfortable both in motion and as part of a layered clothing system. The fit does not feel restrictive and leaves room for additional insulation underneath.

The extended rear hem helps protect the lower back when bending over or carrying a backpack, while the overall cut maintains good freedom of movement.

Raglan sleeves

Raglan sleeves improve freedom of movement and comfort, particularly during active use or when carrying a backpack. The seam runs diagonally from the collar towards the underarm, so there is no thick conventional shoulder seam directly underneath the backpack straps.

This can help reduce pressure and chafing around the shoulders. The cut also gives the arms and shoulders good freedom of movement while maintaining a relaxed fit.

High collar and wind protection behind the zip

The approximately 10 cm high collar helps protect the neck and chin from wind and cold. A wind flap runs behind the front zip, helping to reduce draughts and limit heat loss through the front of the jacket.

There is also a chin guard at the top of the zip, allowing the slider to sit comfortably without rubbing directly against the skin.

The main zip is a lightweight YKK #3, and the zip pull cord contains reflective thread for improved visibility in low light.

Materials and Climashield APEX insulation

The outer fabric is made from lightweight yet durable 10D Nylon RipStop DWR, which helps repel light moisture.

Insulation is provided by Climashield® APEX 2.0 oz / approximately 67 g/m² synthetic insulation. Climashield APEX is a continuous-filament insulation material also used in ultralight sleeping bags, quilts and other lightweight outdoor equipment.

APEX offers a good warmth-to-weight ratio and performs well in damp conditions, making it a practical choice for hiking and variable weather.

It is not useful to define one exact operating temperature for the jacket, as perceived warmth depends on activity level, wind, humidity, the clothing layers worn underneath and individual sensitivity to cold.
