Description
DD SuperLight Tarp 3 × 2.9 m
The DD SuperLight Tarp is an ultralight ripstop nylon tarp designed for hammock camping, backpacking and other adventures where keeping pack weight low is a priority. Weighing approximately 490 g excluding pegs and guy lines, it is significantly lighter than most standard tarps.
Its 3 × 2.9 m size provides excellent coverage for a standard hammock while also serving as a lightweight ground shelter, emergency shelter or camp canopy for hiking, bikepacking and canoe trips.
Using the DD SuperLight Tarp
The tarp features 19 reinforced attachment points, with 16 around the edges and corners and three along the centre ridgeline. This allows a wide variety of pitching configurations, from hammock shelters to open canopies and enclosed ground shelters.
Ripstop nylon naturally stretches slightly when wet. This is a normal characteristic of the fabric and not a manufacturing defect, so the guy lines may need occasional re-tensioning during wet weather.
Ultralight materials require careful handling
Ultralight tarps are designed primarily to minimise pack weight. Their lightweight construction allows them to pack much smaller than standard tarps, but they are not intended to withstand the same level of abuse as heavier fabrics.
Ripstop nylon naturally relaxes when damp. This is a normal material characteristic rather than a fault. During prolonged rain you may need to re-tension the guy lines. Many experienced users add short shock cord loops to the tie-out points, allowing the tarp to stay taut as the fabric expands and contracts.
Ultralight tarps do not use the same heavy reinforcements found on standard models. Strong wind gusts, sudden shock loads and excessively tight pitching place greater stress on the fabric. Diamond pitching above a hammock concentrates more load on fewer attachment points than a traditional ridgeline setup and should be used with care.
DD Hammocks recommends packing SuperLight products by gently stuffing them into their stuff sack rather than folding them along the same creases every time. Repeated folding on identical lines can gradually weaken lightweight fabrics.

Our Thoughts
The DD SuperLight Tarp is an excellent choice when every gram matters. Its lightweight construction does require more careful handling than standard tarps, but that is the trade-off for its exceptionally low weight and compact packed size. Adding shock cord loops to the guy lines helps absorb wind gusts and keeps the tarp tensioned as the fabric moves with changing weather. Packing it by stuffing rather than folding will also help extend the life of the fabric.
