Description
ThruBottle Soft HDPE Water Bottle 1 L CNOC
CNOC ThruBottle 1000 is a one-liter HDPE water bottle built for hikers who like the shape and filter compatibility of a Smartwater bottle but want something intended for long-term use.
The biggest changes compared to the previous ThruBottle are weight and flexibility. The bottle now weighs 63 g instead of 90 g, and the body is noticeably easier to squeeze. If you use a Sawyer Squeeze or similar filter, that means less effort when forcing water through the filter.
Smartwater Bottle or ThruBottle 1000?
Disposable Smartwater bottles have become popular among long-distance hikers for a reason. They’re light, slim, inexpensive, and fit most backpack side pockets.
The ThruBottle 1000 follows the same basic idea. It has a similar tall, narrow shape and uses the same 28 mm thread size found on many popular water filters. The difference is that it is designed to be reused.
If your main goal is the absolute lowest weight, a disposable Smartwater bottle is still lighter. The ThruBottle 1000 makes more sense if you want the same form factor but in a bottle designed to handle repeated use, extended sun exposure, and thousands of kilometers on trail.
Easier to Squeeze Through Filters
The softer HDPE body is the most noticeable upgrade over the previous generation.
When paired with a Sawyer Squeeze, Sawyer Mini, Sawyer Micro, LifeStraw Flex, or HydroBlu VersaFlow, the bottle can be squeezed to increase water flow through the filter. This becomes especially useful as filters age and flow rates begin to slow.
Compatible filters include:
- Sawyer Squeeze
- Sawyer Mini
- Sawyer Micro
- LifeStraw Flex
- HydroBlu VersaFlow
The bottle uses the same 28 mm thread standard as CNOC Vecto water containers, making it easy to integrate into an existing water treatment setup.
Built for Backpack Pockets
The bottle holds one liter of water while maintaining a narrow profile that fits easily into backpack side pockets and shoulder strap pockets. A reinforced nylon pull tab near the cap makes it easier to grab the bottle from deep pockets, particularly when wearing gloves or when the bottle is wet. Measurement markings are molded directly into the bottle rather than printed on the surface, so they won’t wear away over time.
Material and Durability
The ThruBottle 1000 is made from BPA-, BPS-, and BPF-free HDPE. Compared to disposable water bottles, HDPE is better suited to repeated squeezing and long-term outdoor use. The bottle is also curbside recyclable at the end of its life cycle. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 80°C (32°F to 175°F). The bottle can hold boiling water for short periods, although prolonged exposure to high temperatures is not recommended.

FAQ
Does the ThruBottle 1000 work with Sawyer filters?
Yes. The 28 mm thread is compatible with Sawyer Squeeze, Sawyer Mini, and Sawyer Micro filters.
What changed compared to the previous ThruBottle?
The new version weighs 63 g instead of 90 g and has a noticeably softer body that is easier to squeeze.
Is it a replacement for a Smartwater bottle?
That depends on what you value. A disposable Smartwater bottle is lighter, but the ThruBottle 1000 is designed for long-term reuse while keeping the same slim shape and filter compatibility.
Does it replace the CNOC Vecto?
No. The Vecto is designed primarily for collecting and transporting water, while the ThruBottle 1000 is designed as a drinking bottle.
