Apex Topquilt Poncho Ultralight Sleeper Topquilt Liteway

The Liteway Sleeper Topquilt is versatile. It can be used as a topquilt, but also as a camping blanket and poncho. The multifunctional topquilt weighs about 660 – 860 g depending on the size.

What is a quilt/topquilt?

Quilts are somewhat like sleeping bags, but they are open at the back. Quilts are usually about 20% lighter than sleeping bags with similar ratings. The idea behind quilts is that there is no point in putting insulation on the back since it gets compressed under the sleeper, losing its insulating properties. The actual insulation on the underside comes from the sleeping pad or underquilt when sleeping in a hammock.

Quilts are very popular, especially in hammock camping, but are rapidly gaining popularity among regular campers. Many have found quilts helpful in alleviating the claustrophobia caused by sleeping bags. It is much easier to get under a quilt than into a traditional sleeping bag.

When used with a sleeping pad, many people use the elastic bands provided with the product to attach the quilt to the pad. The elastic bands can also be used to connect the edges of the quilt together at the back, creating a “mummy-style” sleeping bag.

Materials

The lightweight Sleeper Quilt is made from strong yet lightweight 20D nylon. The filling is lightweight, high-quality Climashield Apex, which is currently a highly regarded synthetic camping gear material. Although Apex is somewhat heavier than down, it offers several advantages:

With a weight of about half a kilogram (depending on size and fill thickness), the quilt is still quite light for its size and temperature performance.

When wet, Apex fiber stays warm for a long time and does not clump. Apex has excellent lofting ability, quickly becoming fluffy when taken out of the backpack during a trip.

Using as a Poncho

The special feature of this topquilt is that it can also be used as a poncho. The topquilt has a wind-protected zippered opening in the middle through which you can push your head. The topquilt can be quickly converted into a warming poncho. Open the zipper in the middle and wrap the underquilt around your head. The elastic bands on the sides of the underquilt can be used to secure the poncho around yourself if needed.

Using as a Blanket

When you do not close the footbox zipper, you can use the topquilt as a camping blanket. As a blanket, the topquilt is almost the same size as a normal blanket used at home.

Sleeper Topquilt Elastic Bands

The long edges of the quilt have small loops for elastic bands. These loops are used to attach the sliding buckle elastic bands, which can close the topquilt at the back around yourself or alternatively around the sleeping pad. The top edge of the topquilt has a drawstring channel with an adjustable sliding buckle drawstring.

Footbox

In this Apex Topquilt, the footbox is formed by a zipper and tightened into a cone shape with an elastic band.

Packing Bag

The packing bag is made from fine mesh. This packing bag can be used as a mosquito hood, gear pouch, or even a pillow when packed with some clothes. The product does not include a small packing bag, so we recommend packing the Simplex for transport in a waterproof packing bag with a minimum size of 8 liters.
