M34 Loue 2-Person Cotton Open-Fire Shelter | FinnRover
M34 Loue for 2 people FinnRover is a traditional Finnish open-fire shelter from the FinnRover Wilderness Collection. The M34 is the range’s classic cotton model, based on the Loue shelter tradition developed from the original design by A.E. Järvinen.
The M34 is made from heavy-duty cotton fabric weighing approximately 265 g/m². The attachment points are reinforced with leather in keeping with the traditional construction. The complete Loue weighs approximately 3.3 kg and has a height of approximately 285 cm.
Traditional Finnish open-fire shelter
A Loue is an open-front shelter recognised by its wedge-shaped front and curved rear section. The upper part can be suspended from a tree or supported with a pole, while the rear section is secured to the ground with stakes.
The open front is an essential part of the Loue design. Traditionally, the shelter is used with an open fire positioned in front of it, while the rear section provides protection from wind and weather.
Several Loue shelters can also be pitched around the same campfire, facing each other so that one fire can serve several shelters.
M34 – the A.E. Järvinen heritage model
The M34 is also known in the FinnRover range as the Järvinen model. Its background reaches back to the open-fire shelter developed by A.E. Järvinen in the 1930s.
In the 1960s, Kullervo Kemppinen made his own Lapland Loue based on Järvinen’s design. The basic form of today’s FinnRover Loue shelters follows Kemppinen’s version as closely as possible.
The M34 is the most traditional interpretation of this construction in the FinnRover range, with its substantial cotton fabric and leather-reinforced attachment points.
Heavy-duty cotton fabric and leather reinforcements
The M34 is made from cotton fabric weighing approximately 265 g/m². FinnRover describes it as a robust two-person cotton Loue.
The attachment points are reinforced with leather, forming part of both the traditional construction and appearance of the M34.
Same 2-person dimensions as the M16 and M64
The FinnRover M34 uses the same basic two-person dimensions as the M16 and M64 Loue shelters.

The final usable dimensions depend on the pitching angle. The shape and position of the Loue can be adjusted using the attachment points according to weather conditions and the campsite.

The FinnRover M34 weighs approximately 3.3 kg. Its higher weight compared with some other FinnRover two-person models is due to the substantial cotton fabric.
Easy to pitch without carrying a dedicated frame
The upper part of the Loue can be suspended from a suitable tree or branch, or supported with a separate pole. The rear section is secured to the ground with stakes.
In traditional use, a suitable long pole found at the campsite can also be used as the main support, reducing the need to carry a separate centre pole.
Stakes and a support pole are not included unless otherwise stated in the package contents.
Using an open fire with the Loue
The Loue is designed for use in combination with an open fire. Always consider the distance from the fire, wind direction, wind strength and sparks when pitching and using the shelter.
Always follow current wildfire warnings, local regulations and landowner permissions when lighting an open fire.
Finnish manufacturing and design
According to FinnRover, the products are entitled to use the Key Flag and Design from Finland marks as symbols of Finnish work and Finnish design.
FinnRover Loue shelters are manufactured by Laatuteltta Ky Vilkman, whose tent-making tradition extends back several decades.
