M20 Base Camp Loue 6-8 person FinnRover is a large Finnish open-fire shelter and base camp canopy from the FinnRover Wilderness Collection. It is designed for larger groups and works especially well as a communal shelter for cooking, relaxing and gathering around a campfire.
The M20 Base Camp is made from white 50/50 polycotton ripstop fabric weighing approximately 165 g/m². The attachment points are reinforced with leather. The complete Loue weighs approximately 2.75 kg, has a height of approximately 390 cm and a fabric width of approximately 630 cm. The recommended centre support pole length is approximately 350 cm.
M20 Base Camp Loue 6-8 person FinnRover – large Finnish open-fire shelter
M20 Base Camp Loue 6-8 person FinnRover is one of the larger shelters in the FinnRover Loue range and is intended for approximately 6-8 people. Its spacious open-front design provides room for people, cooking equipment and other camp gear.
A Loue is a traditional Finnish open-front shelter. The large open side is intended to face the campfire, while the rear section provides protection from wind and weather.
Designed for base camps and larger groups
FinnRover designed the M20 Base Camp for larger groups and communal camp use. It can be used as a base camp cooking shelter, shared gathering area, event shelter or outdoor canopy.
Compared with the smaller 2-person FinnRover Loue models, the M20 places greater emphasis on communal space and practical camp use.
50/50 polycotton ripstop fabric
The M20 Base Camp is made from 50/50 cotton-polyester ripstop fabric weighing approximately 165 g/m².
The ripstop construction helps limit the spread of a tear if the fabric is damaged. The white fabric also gives the large shelter a bright and traditional appearance.
The attachment points are reinforced with leather, in keeping with the traditional construction used in FinnRover Loue shelters.
Large 390 cm high construction
The M20 Base Camp has a height of approximately 390 cm and a fabric width of approximately 630 cm, making it significantly larger than the standard 2-person FinnRover Loue shelters.
A strong centre pole approximately 350 cm long is recommended for pitching. The support pole can be made from wood or metal.
Pitching the M20 Base Camp Loue
The upper part of the shelter can be suspended from a suitable tree or branch. A long and sturdy centre support pole is also used as part of the pitching system.
According to FinnRover, the Loue is tensioned using the supplied attachment cord and two Quicklok buckles. The lower edge of the shelter is secured to the ground with stakes.

Despite its large dimensions, the FinnRover M20 Base Camp weighs approximately 2.75 kg.
Using an open fire with the M20 Base Camp
The M20 Base Camp is designed as an open shelter for use in combination with an open fire. Always consider the distance from the fire, wind direction, wind strength and sparks when pitching and using the shelter.
Always follow current wildfire warnings, local regulations and landowner permissions when lighting an open fire.
The Finnish Loue tradition
The FinnRover Loue range continues the long Finnish tradition of open-fire shelters. The history of the modern Loue dates back to a shelter developed by A.E. Järvinen in the 1930s. In the 1960s, Kullervo Kemppinen made his own Lapland Loue based on Järvinen’s design.
The M20 Base Camp applies the same basic idea on a larger scale: an open shelter with a campfire positioned in front, providing a communal space for a larger group.
